Here's the process of making Zyra. These are early ideation sketches before she was finalized to be who she is now.
I did many explorations and started doing some subtle variations here. Me and Morello(Ryan Scott) worked hard on picking the right direction for the character. We really thought about playing with the thick vine hair that could potentially show really cool attack moves and animations. We also played with the short vine hair that could glow when she casted magic. Ultimately what we wanted was a deadly and fierce Zyra that represented nature's wrath.
